Donald John Trump, born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York, is a business magnate, television personality, and political figure. He served as the 45th President of the United States from January 20, 2017, to January 20, 2021.
Business Career: Before venturing into politics, Trump was best known for his ventures in real estate. He took over his family's real estate business in 1971, renaming it The Trump Organization. Over the decades, Trump expanded the company's operations to building or renovating skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses worldwide. Among his most recognized developments are Trump Tower in New York City, the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago, and the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
Reality Television: In 2003, Trump became a well-known television personality with his reality show, "The Apprentice," where contestants competed for a chance to work under him. The show was a massive success, and its catchphrase, "You're fired!" became a part of popular culture.
Presidency: In 2015, Trump announced his candidacy for the U.S. presidency. His campaign, marked by his direct style and controversial statements, captured significant media attention. Running as a Republican, he defeated 16 other candidates in the primaries. In the general election, he faced Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Despite losing the popular vote, Trump won the Electoral College and thus the presidency.
His tenure as President was marked by significant policy changes, including tax reforms, changes in immigration policies, and the appointment of three Supreme Court Justices. His administration also saw a controversial handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and a strong emphasis on deregulation and trade reforms, especially with China.
Trump's presidency was polarizing. He faced impeachment twice by the House of Representatives: first, in December 2019, on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress (he was acquitted by the Senate in February 2020), and then in January 2021, on charges of incitement of insurrection following the storming of the U.S. Capitol (he was acquitted by the Senate in February 2021).
Post-Presidency: After leaving office, Trump returned to his business ventures and remained active in political commentary. His influence on the Republican Party remains significant, and he has hinted at the possibility of running for office again in the future.
Donald Trump's legacy, both in business and politics, is complex and will be the subject of debate and analysis for years to come.
