Nicknamed “The Thumper”, “The Splendid Splinter”, “The Kid” and “Teddy Ballgame”, Ted Williams is considered by many to be one of the most skillful hitters in the history of professional baseball. He finished his 19-year Major League Baseball career with a .482 on-base percentage which still holds the record for the highest of all time. He also finished his playing career boasting 521 home runs and a .344 batting average. He won the Triple Crown twice during his playing career and he is also a six-time AL batting champion. He also received the American League (AL) Most Valuable Player Award twice and is a nineteen-time All-Star. Of all the MLB players during the live-ball era, he and Billy Hamilton are tied for 7th of all time in overall ratings. Since his birth on August 30, 1918, Ted Williams has been a passionate lover of the game of baseball. He represented his teams well in competitions during his childhood and teenage years, and he constantly practiced and honed his baseball skills in the hopes of becoming the best baseballer in the country. He decided to join the Boston Red Sox team when he was just 21 years old and he emerged as of baseball’s best hitters within no time. In fact, by 1941, Ted Williams was posting a batting average of .406 .  This is a record that has stayed with him to this day: he’s the last MLB player who has ever batted more than .400 in a season! One year later, Ted Williams went on to win his first Triple Crown. Sadly, his streak of baseball greatness was interrupted in 1943 when World War II erupted/emerged, thereby sending the world into a frenzy and him into forced military service with the Marine Corps and US Navy. By 1946, Ted Williams was allowed to return to the MLB and he enacted greatness in the sport by winning his first AL MVP Award. He also played in his only World Series during this year. Ted Williams went on to win his second Triple Crown in 1947 and continued in baseball excellence on the field for the next couple of years. The start of the Korean War would once again see Ted Williams return to active military service since he was a very skilled and highly desired Marine Combat Aviator. Thankfully, his military service only lasted for parts of the 1952 and 1953 baseball seasons, and soon he was back on the baseball field creating magic with his hands. By the time Ted Williams was 40 years old, he had already been an AL Batting Champion all of six times. So in 1960 when he was certain of the priceless and immortal legacy that he had left in the game, he chose to retire completely from the game. On July 25, 1966, Ted Williams was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame; this was the first year that he became eligible for the award. Yet, that’s not the only Hall of Fame award that he’s been awarded! He is also an avid fan of fishing and even hosted a television program about it, too. So, he was later inducted into the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame. President George H. W. Bush honored him with a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1991 for his contributions to nation-building; this award is the highest civilian award conferred by the U.S. government. In 1997, Ted Williams was also chosen for the Major League Baseball All-Time Team and in 1999, he was chosen for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team. If you’re a true Ted “The Thumper” Williams fan and you want to have something to always remember him by, then grab this piece of history before someone beats you to it! This signed Theodore Williams Cheque has been fully authenticated by MJB Memorabilia, PSA, and is sitting here just waiting for a real fan of Ted Williams to give it a new home. Will that be you?
