O.J. Anderson’s streak of greatness started long before he set foot on any NFL field and was thrilling us weekly with his fantastic plays. It started within the walls of the Forest Hill High School in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he broke almost every football record that they had at the school! He did the same when he moved to the University of Miami on a full sporting scholarship and was their most cherished track and football star there. In his senior year at the school, he rushed for 1,266 yards, thereby breaking the previous record that had been set by Chuck Foreman while he was there! He also became the University of Miami’s all-time leading rusher, attaining 3,331 yards. During his tenure at the school, he was also named the American Football Coaches and The Sporting News First Team All-American. In addition, he received All-American honourable mentions by both the United Press International and the Associated Press. In an attempt to immortalize his greatness and honour the athletic contributions he made to their institution, the University of Miami inducted him into its Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. O.J’s debut season was one of the best in NFL history! In his first game, he rushed to all of 193 yards for the St. Louis Cardinals! He was just one yard short of the one set by Ameche in 1955 for the Baltimore Colts. He was one of the very few who breathed life into the Cardinals’ 1979 season, attaining 1605 rushing yards and helping them finish 5-11. That year, O.J. Anderson also won All-Pro honours, the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and the first Pro Bowl selection given out that season. He’d go on to win a second Pro Bowl selection in the year that followed. In the next five seasons of his professional career, O.J. Anderson consistently rushed for over 1,000 yards. He would have rushed for over 1000 yards, too, had the season not been shortened by the 1982 strike that had been initiated by the players. This strike shortened the season to only 8 games and in these games, he rushed for 587 yards. If he had played the full 16 game season, how many yards do you think he would have rushed in total? 😏 He stayed with the St. Louis Cardinals for two more years before he was traded to the New York Giants in 1986. This would later prove to be a very big mistake for The Cardinals, since O.J. Anderson started working his magic on his new team as soon as he got acquainted with them. Did you know that he didn’t fumble even once during his 100 offensive touches of his first two and a half seasons with the Giants? Between the years 1987 to 1992, O.J. fumbled only thrice in 739 touches with his new team. In addition, he rushed for 1023 yards on 325 carries while scoring a career-high 14 rushing touchdowns in 1989. This earned him the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award. He also went on to help win two Super Bowl titles for his new team: Super Bowl XXV and Super Bowl XXI. In fact, O.J. Anderson was actually awarded the Super Bowl MVP award for his awe-inspiring performance in the Super Bowl XXV. He was the top running back of the game, scoring a touchdown on 21 carries, in addition to the 102 yards that he achieved. This performance played a significant role in helping his team set a Super Bowl record for their time of possession; he also did this by his contribution to the Giants’ ball-control offense. Upon his retirement after the 1992 season, O.J. Anderson was one of only four running backs in the history of the NFL to win Super Bowl MVP awards as well as score rushing touchdowns twice in Super Bowls. At the conclusion of the 2019 NFL season, O.J Anderson was ranked 31st on the list of Running Backs who have rushed for more than 10,000 yards. (He was 7th at the time of his retirement). So if you’re a fan of American Football and want a taste of O.J. Anderson’s sporting greatness, then don’t hesitate to grab this rare and exclusive signed OJ Anderson T Shirt before you lose the chance. This signed t shirt has been fully authenticated by MJB Memorabilia and is just waiting for the greatest fan of O.J. Anderson to take it home. Will that be you?
