Dynamic. Fun. Ask anyone in Australia about David Clencie and I can bet those are some of the words they’ll use to describe him. Although many know him for the phenomenal role he played in the hit soap opera ‘Neighbours’ as the well-loved Danny Ramsey, David’s true fans would know that his acting career started way before then. David actually started acting at the age of 13, after responding to a newspaper advertisement recruiting children to act in an upcoming movie. He called them up, telling them that he had no experience in acting whatsoever but he wanted to try out for a part. And that he did! After the first audition, they gave him a piece of the script with about 15 pages, telling him to learn every word and then come back down for the second audition. Of course, he aced the second audition with flying colours and was given the lead role of Sam in the television drama- Sam’s Luck. Sam was the leader of a trio of children who had to fend for themselves after being abandoned by their parents. It was the very first children’s TV drama produced by ABC and it was well-received by audiences far and wide. After the conclusion of Sam’s Luck, David Clencie then decided to audition for another acting role. ABC had decided to create a six-part miniseries on a book written by author Alan Marshall. This miniseries was called ‘I Can Jump Puddles’ and David got the role of Joe Carmichael, Alan’s best friend. He also appeared as a major guest in two episodes of ‘Cop Shop’ for Crawford Productions……and don’t forget: he did all this while still going to school! Soon, Nine Network was calling down his agent’s phone, begging to have him join their regular cast in ‘The Sullivans’ series. And of course, you know David Clencie would never disappoint, so before long he was playing the part of their beloved character Steve Sullivan whom the fans could never get enough of. In addition, David Clencie had a lead role in the movie ‘The Kid’, which was directed by Rodney Fisher and was a joint production by St Martins Theatres and Playbox. He also appeared with Annie Jones in a film for the South Australian Film Corporation. Neighbours is an Australian television soap opera that took us Aussies by storm in 1985 and has held us captive in thrilling drama and suspense ever since. The fan favourite Danny Ramsay was played by none other than David Clencie himself, who was only twenty years old at the time. He even had the honour of being the first character to speak during the series’ debut on March 18, 1985. Danny had a very troubled relationship with his dad Max and later on in the series, he eventually discovered that it was actually Tim Duncan who was his biological father. Danny worked as a bank teller on Neighbours and had an awe-inspiring relationship with his friend Scott Robinson. Sadly, on July 31, 1985, Danny moved away from Ramsay Street and David Clencie discontinued his role on Neighbours. Yet, the fans of Neighbours got another chance to see their beloved Danny Ramsay when David reprised his role for a documentary about Ramsay Street created by Annalise Hartman. Yet acting isn’t the only field in which David Clencie has wowed his fans worldwide. He is also an excellent Australian voice artist, with clients which include the Department of Human Services, Ford Australia, Worksafe, Repco, Stihl Power Tools, and TAC. David Clencie has a career spanning more than 35 years of excellence and he doesn’t plan to stop any time soon. So if you are a fan looking on and you’d want to grab a relic as a reminder of David Clencie’s brilliance, then grab this Episode 1 Neighbours script signed and sealed by David Clencie himself. This signed script has been fully authenticated by MJB Memorabilia and has been proven to be genuine. So, grab it now before another one of his fans beats you to it!
