Take some time to immerse yourself into the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles…a world created by Kevin Eastman and his co-creator Peter Laird in 1983. In this world, a group of four turtles traverse the streets of New York City seeking to right any wrongs committed by various villains all around the city by means of vigilante justice. These turtles are Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Leonardo who have been named after Renaissance Artists by their adoptive father, mentor, and Ninjitsu trainer- Splinter. Splinter is actually a talking rat who was at the scene of a terrible accident in which a very potent mutagen made by the Techno-Cosmic Research Institute (TCRI) was spilled from a strange canister into a young man’s aquarium containing his baby turtles. The canister shattered the glass of the aquarium immediately, thereby sending the turtles into a manhole cover nearby. While falling into the sewer, the baby turtles were completely covered by the mutagenic substance in the canister. Out of curiosity, Splinter went down into the sewer to see what had become of the baby turtles and what he saw was astounding: the baby turtles were covered in the glowing substance but they had survived the fall! So, Splinter collected them all in a coffee can that was nearby and slowly helped to clean the sticky, glowing substance off of the baby turtles. But little did he know that this substance would change all their lives forever. By the following day, both he and the baby turtles were getting bigger and bigger and becoming more human-like, too. Eventually, the humanoid turtles began to speak and Splinter vowed to adopt them, love them and train them in the art of ninjutsu as his own ninjas who would help him avenge the unlawful killing of his now-deceased owner, Hamato Yoshi. The leader of the turtle quartet is Leonardo and he usually wears a blue bandana. He wields all of two katanas and he’s an expert swordsman. He’s also the most disciplined ninja of the four. Of all the Teenage Ninja Turtles, Michelangelo is the one who is most fun-loving and least disciplined. But that is not to discount Michelangelo’s abilities: he’s actually the one who is the most agile. His weapon of choice is the nunchucks and he sports an orange bandana. Donatello is the Teenage Ninja Turtle who often wears a purple mask. And although he uses his bo staff quite effectively during fights, he mostly relies on his intellectual prowess to come up with vehicles and invent gadgets that help the Teenage Ninja Turtles in their quests. Finally, Raphael is the strongest turtle of them all and he dons a red bandana. Although he is the most reckless of all the Teenage Ninja Turtles, he often uses his pair of sai quite effectively to take out almost any enemy in battle. Throughout the Teenage Ninja Turtles’ many editions, they have faced many enemies but none quite as evil as their arch-nemesis- The Shredder. The Shredder is a muscular Japanese man who leads the criminal gang known as the Foot Clan. Only The Shredder’s eyes are seen in the comics, since he wears a metal helmet and a suit of armor, too. The Shredder’s most prominent accomplices are Krang, Baxter Stockman, and Karai. Krang is actually an alien warlord while Baxter Stockman is a mad scientist. Karai is The Shredder’s second in command since she is a very skilled martial artist. Rocksteady (a mutant warthog) and Bebop (a mutant rhinoceros) are also commonly seen in the series; they are his buffoonish henchmen. Kevin Eastman and his co-creator Peter Laird actually created this alternate universe on the couch and kitchen tables of their shared home! They had jointly borrowed $1000 from Kevin’s uncle Quentin to fund its initial launch but little did they know that the concept of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would give them a meteoric rise to success! Now the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has grown to become a juggernaut of entertainment that encompasses not only comics but also toys, animations, video games, and much more. But who was Kevin Eastman before he became such a powerful publisher, editor, writer, and comic book artist? Well, Kevin was simply a young boy who loved comic books from an early age. He was born in Portland, Maine and he attended the Westbrook High School. While growing up, his favorite comic book character was Kamandi- who thrilled him from 1972-to 1987 in the comic series Kamandi: The Last Boy on Earth by Jack Kirby. By 1983, Kevin was making amateur comics of his own while working in a restaurant. He was also searching for publishers who could breathe life into his comics. It was during this year that he met Peter Laird who partnered with him professionally to create various comics. One year later, they saw their dreams come to life. The very first edition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was actually in black and white but that didn’t matter because as soon as comic distributors and investors laid eyes on the comics, they fell in love.  They quickly foresaw its potential and invested in it heavily; by 1992, over USD $1.1 billion worth of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys were sold. That was actually the third highest-selling toy at the time. And remember those were just the amount amassed from the sale of the toys; there were still animation deals, video game deals, etc. that were bringing home the dough! Thus was the start of the Teenage Ninja Turtle franchise that we know and love today. But if you want a signed comic book that is from Kevin Eastman himself, then you don’t have to search the whole internet to find one that has been certified as authentic. This signed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book has been fully authenticated by MJB Memorabilia and is waiting for a true Teenage Ninja Turtle and Kevin Eastman fan to carry it home. Grab it before it’s too late!
