A forever champion of the causes of both women and children, Hillary Rodham Clinton has worn many titles over the years. From lawyer to first lady to senator to secretary of state- Hillary Clinton has seen it all and at the ripe age of 75, she still continues to serve the United States of America in whatever capacity she can. She was born in Chicago, Illinois at the Edgewater Medical Center on October 26, 1947. Her mother’s name was Dorothy Howell and she was a homemaker of Welsh, Scottish, French Canadian, English, and Dutch descent. Her father’s name was Hugh Rodham and he was the owner of a profitable textile business; he was of Welsh and English descent. Her parents named her Hillary Diane Rodham, and she and her other siblings Tony and Hugh lived with their parents in Chicago until Hillary was three years of age and they moved to Park Ridge. In 1969, Hillary graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in Political Science and would go on to earn her Juris Doctor from Yale Law School four years later. It was at Yale Law School that she would meet Bill Clinton- her future husband and the future president of the United States. They actually started dating in the spring of 1971 and he first proposed marriage to her after her graduation. However, she declined this initial proposal since she was certain that marrying him would tie her future to his and she was unsure if she wanted this at the time. While at the Yale Chile Study Center in her year of postgraduate study, Hillary Clinton began investigating Children and Medicine. She wrote “Children Under the Law” her first scholarly article that gained the recognition of the Harvard Educational Review which published it in late 1973. This article championed the cause of children, stating that they were citizens, too, though powerless and so they should be considered as such. This article would be often cited by children advocates all around the world and was the first of many written by Hillary Clinton which defended children, women, or both. After graduation, Bill Clinton also took Hillary on her first trip to Europe. They arrived in London and Bill took Hillary on a tour of all the city’s major sites. While they stood on the shores of Lake Ennerdale at sunset, Bill proposed for the very first time to Hillary. However, she declined this initial proposal. This would be the first of many proposals that Hillary would decline. However, she did move with him back to Arkansas. On one trip back to her hometown of Chicago, Hillary and Bill both saw a house that was for sale. Hillary just casually mentioned how nice it was but unbeknownst to her, that casual comment would later lead bill to buy it and later propose to her, once again. This time he told her that he had bought the house and that she’d better marry him now because he couldn’t live in it alone. Then Hillary finally accepted his proposal with a smile. Hillary Clinton would go on to co-found the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families (AACF) non-profit organization in 1977 with other significant Arkansans who collectively opined that children were in need of an “independent force to provide information and education to parents and citizens about our state’s policies towards children and families.” From its inception, the AACF has aimed to promote and ameliorate the economic well-being and security of Arkansans, increase Out-of-School opportunities and early education for Arkansan students and improve the health of Arkansan children, too. It has also strived to protect Arkansan children by challenging the Arkansan Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice System to perform better for Arkansan children. In the year that followed, the Legal Services Corporation appointed her as their first ever female chair and by 1979 she was adding to her list of firsts by becoming Little Rock’s Rose Law Firm’s first female partner. The country at large was quickly catching on to her awe-inspiring achievements, too, and she was twice listed in The National Law Journal as one of the hundred most influential attorneys in the United States. The year 1979 also saw her becoming the first lady of Arkansas. This was a tenure that lasted from 1979 to 1981 and it was one she would regain in 1983 to 1992. The year 1993 would be the year her husband, Bill Clinton, became president of the United States. Thus, Hillary Clinton gained the well-esteemed position of First Lady of the United States. Healthcare reform was one of her major initiatives during this time and she, among others, formulated the Clinton Health Care Plan. Sadly, this plan failed to gain the support of those in Congress and so it was not effected. Yet Hillary Clinton did not give up! Between 1997 and 1999, she played an instrumental role in the creation of the Foster Care Independence Act, the Adoption and Safe Families Act, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. At the 1995 UN conference on Women, Hillary Clinton was also the speaker who advocated for gender equality. Between 2001 and 2009, Hillary Clinton went on to serve as the U.S. Senator for the state of New York. From 2009 to 2013, she served as the 67th U.S. Secretary of State. She was the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in 2016 for the presidential election that year. This was the first time any major U.S. political party had ever chosen a woman as their presidential nominee and although she won the popular vote, she lost the vote of the electoral college to Donald Trump. Hence, he became president that year. If you’re a supporter of Hillary Clinton and the many causes she has championed, then don’t hesitate to buy this signed book from the former first lady herself! This signed book has been sealed, vetted, and certified as authentic by MJB Memorabilia and it’s just waiting for a true supporter of Hillary Clinton to take it home. Will that be you?
