Shania Twain is a Canadian singer and songwriter who has achieved remarkable success in the country and pop music genres. She was born Eilleen Regina Edwards on August 28, 1965, in Windsor, Ontario. Twain’s family struggled financially, and she began singing in bars at an early age to help pay the bills.

She adopted the stage name Shania, which is reported to be an Ojibwa word meaning "I'm on my way," early in her career. Twain's journey to stardom was far from easy, including a tragic incident where she lost her parents in a car accident when she was just 22. The tragedy left her as the primary caregiver of her younger siblings. She moved the family to Huntsville, Ontario, where she performed at a local resort to support them.

Twain’s big break in the music industry came when she signed with Mercury Nashville Records in 1993. Her second studio album, "The Woman in Me," released in 1995, won a Grammy and sold over 12 million copies. The album included hits like "Any Man of Mine" and "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" which helped cement Twain as a country music superstar.

However, it was her third studio album, "Come on Over," that catapulted her to international fame. Released in 1997, the album sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling album by a female artist in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time. The album included the hits "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" and "You're Still the One."

Twain's unique blend of country and pop, coupled with her energetic performances and engaging music videos, led to crossover success in the mainstream pop market. Her distinctive style and empowering lyrics helped her resonate with a wide audience, earning her the title "Queen of Country Pop."

Despite experiencing a career hiatus due to a Lyme disease diagnosis, which at one point caused dysphonia and nearly ended her singing career, Twain made a triumphant return to music. She has since released a new album, embarked on tours, and even had a Las Vegas residency, proving her enduring appeal and resilience.

As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Twain has won five Grammy Awards and has sold over 100 million records, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Her legacy in the music industry is undeniable, and she continues to influence many artists in both the country and pop genres.
