O.J. Simpson, born Orenthal James Simpson on July 9, 1947, is a former professional American football player and media figure. He first gained fame as a record-breaking running back in the National Football League (NFL) during the 1960s and 1970s. A versatile talent, Simpson was also an accomplished broadcaster and actor. However, his image and reputation would dramatically change in the mid-1990s.

Simpson attended the University of Southern California (USC), where he played college football for the USC Trojans. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1968. Following his successful college football career, Simpson was drafted as the first overall pick in the NFL 1969 Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Throughout his career, he established numerous records and was eventually inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

After retiring from football, Simpson pursued a career in acting and sports broadcasting, appearing in films such as "The Towering Inferno," "Capricorn One," and the "Naked Gun" series, while also serving as a commentator for "Monday Night Football."

However, Simpson's life took a dark turn in 1994 when he was charged with the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. The following trial, often referred to as the "Trial of the Century," was one of the most publicized and controversial trials in American history. In October 1995, he was acquitted of the murders.

Despite his acquittal, the controversy surrounding Simpson did not end. In 2007, he was convicted on several counts, including armed robbery and kidnapping, in a separate case in Nevada. He served nine years in prison before being granted parole and released in 2017.

O.J. Simpson's story is a complex and controversial one. He remains a figure of public fascination, emblematic of both great success and profound fall from grace. His life and career continue to stir debate and discussion about race, celebrity, and justice in America
