Henry Hill, born on June 11, 1943, in New York City, was an American mobster and a member of the Lucchese crime family. His life in organized crime inspired the best-selling 1985 book Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family by Nicholas Pileggi and the highly acclaimed 1990 film Goodfellas, directed by Martin Scorsese. Hill's criminal career spanned over two decades and involved a wide range of activities, including drug trafficking, racketeering, and the infamous 1978 Lufthansa heist, which was one of the largest cash robberies in American history at the time.

In 1980, after being arrested on drug charges, Hill turned government informant and entered the Federal Witness Protection Program, testifying against his former associates in the Lucchese crime family. His cooperation with law enforcement led to the conviction of over 50 mobsters. Despite his criminal past, Hill managed to transform his life after leaving witness protection, working as a chef and authoring several books, including a cookbook titled The Wiseguy Cookbook. He passed away on June 12, 2012, at the age of 69, leaving behind a complex legacy as both a notorious gangster and a valuable government witness.
